Our Mission

Sustainable Charlotte is working to build a sustainable, just, and resilient community that can thrive in our bioregion with its finite resources. We are learning together how to re-learn essential living skills, re-localize our food and economy, and improve our health.

We are seeking to unleash the collective skills and resources in our town in order to support regenerative grassroots community projects in collaboration with others. We seek to be part of a steady-state Vermont economy of sufficiency.

How we are attempting to live up to our mission:

  • We collaborate with other organizations to build relationships, trust, and competence.

  • We support the Charlotte Food Shelf with donations of food and money.

  • We host re-skilling workshops.

  • We host repair cafés, teaching people how to repair their belongings instead of throwing them away.

  • We host an annual collection of obsolete electronic goods, conserving resources and keeping hazardous items out of the environment and landfill.

  • We build affordable window inserts to save on heating costs and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

  • We educate through showing documentaries, hosting speakers, sponsoring reading groups, and more.

  • We promote the reduction and eventual elimination of the use of fossil fuels.
