Embrace Fearlessly The Burning World Book Discussion

The discussion of Embrace Fearlessly The Burning World, by Barry Lopez, is co-hosted by Sustainable Charlotte and the Charlotte Library. An ardent steward of the land, fearless traveler, and unrivaled observer of nature and culture, Barry Lopez died after a long illness on Christmas Day 2020. This book, published in 2022, is a collection of his essays, including some unpublished works.

All are welcome. This will be a hybrid meeting. Please register here for in person and here for zoom.

If you loved his book Arctic Dreams: Imagination and Desire in a Northern Landscape, or Of Wolves and Men, or any other of his books, you will not want to miss this new and exciting book. If you haven’t read anything by Barry Lopez, you are encouraged to dive into amazing writing and of the deep thinking of Barry Lopez.

We will meet at 7 pm for 5 Mondays at the Charlotte Library and on zoom beginning, on the first evening, with discussing the introduction by Rebecca Solnit and the first two essays in the “Conversations” section. The second meeting will include talking about the remaining essays in that section, followed by the next three sections being covered each Monday. We can choose to read all the essays in each section or pick several. As a different approach to a book discussion, we will learn from each other about the essays we may not have read.
