This book is the second of three book discussions that Sustainable Charlotte and the Charlotte Library are hosting. All will be on Zoom and the link will be here when we come closer to the beginning date of each book. Books will be available for loan or purchase through the Charlotte Library.
When we think of fungi, we likely think of mushrooms. But mushrooms are only fruiting bodies, analogous to apples on an underground tree. Most fungi live out of sight and are easy to miss yet make up a massively diverse kingdom of organisms that support and sustain nearly all living systems. The more we learn about fungi, the less makes sense without them.
Merlin Sheldrakes’s exploration of this astonishing kingdom of life reveals how fungi—and our relationships with them—are changing our understanding of how the world works. Bringing to light science’s tastes discoveries, he points us toward the fundamental questions that fungi provoke about the nature of life, intelligence and identity.
